The Research Center for Environmental Medicine was established in 2008 at Kaohsiung Medical University and was renamed the Research Center for Precision Environmental Medicine in 2022 （hereinafter referred to as “the Center”). The Center’s mission is to investigate the relationships between emerging environmental issues and human diseases, with a particular focus on elucidating the links between environmental exposures and human health and advancing environmental medicine research and its practical applications.

To fulfill this mission, the Center integrates the clinical resources of Kaohsiung Medical University and its affiliated healthcare system and adopts a patient-centered research framework to systematically investigate the impacts of environmental pollution on human health and the onset and progression of diseases. The Center brings together interdisciplinary teams specializing in environmental exposure assessment, human biomonitoring, molecular omics, and clinical medicine. By employing multi-omics approaches, the Center aims to identify disease-related environmental etiological factors and elucidate their underlying biological mechanisms. These efforts support the development of evidence-based mitigation and health intervention strategies and facilitate the translation of research findings into clinical and real-world applications.

The Center also places strong emphasis on talent development, cultivating professionals with advanced scientific research capabilities, interdisciplinary integration skills, and an innovation-oriented mindset. Through the University Social Responsibility （USR） Project, the Center develops educational materials and community engagement models that translate research findings into real-world settings. By connecting academic research with community needs, the Center promotes the practical application of scientific knowledge and enhances the societal impact of its research.

Through interdisciplinary research, clinical integration, talent cultivation, and social engagement, the Center is committed to advancing precision environmental medicine and addressing emerging environmental and health challenges in Taiwan and worldwide.
